monday night ride - spinning day Empty
PostSubject: monday night ride - spinning day   monday night ride - spinning day Icon_minitimeSun Oct 04, 2009 7:47 pm

dear all,

monday night i'll be spinning - feel free to join me. 8.30 pm. the idea for spinning is to maintain high cadence - 100 to 130 rpm. so my speed will be low, 28 - 30 km/h.

route a : 888 -> adam - 888 (39 km)
route b : 888 -> neo tiew -> lck u turn - 888 (39 km)
route c : 888 -> mandai -> 888 (22 km) or
route d : 888 -> mandai -> u turn at sembawang -> mandai -> 888 (26 km)

and why do high cadence?
your heart and lungs can take repeated punishment for long periods of time (and they recovery quickly after hard efforts,) while your muscles will fatigue relatively quickly. a high cadence also places less stress and torque on your knees. so if you have bad knees, you’re usually better off spinning faster, in a low gear. spinning fast in a low gear allows for faster accelerations, because you can bump up your cadence even more to increase your speed.

road bike pedaling at high cadence allows you to maximize efficiency and improve speed. since spinning taxes the aerobic system, muscles stay fresh for the final sprint.
