How the group started... The Evolution

At times, I've been asked by some of the new kakis, how this group started. Well... maybe it's best for me to share the origin over here in summary.

It all started somewhere in 2005. Paul aka Ah Poh, Calvin (now migrated to Vietnam) & myself met online via MTB S'pore forum (founded by Zilla & Desmond). Since all 3 of us stay in Woodlands, Calvin suggested we meet-up for an offroad ride to Ulu Sembawang. We met for the 1st time one Sunday morning at Civic Centre for this ride. From then on we became cycling buddies & met frequently for kopitok at Vista Point. Through this forum, we organised offroad rides to Pulau Ubin, Woodcutter, Ulu Sembawang etc. We got to know more kakis during these rides such as (just to name a few) Jai (now busy with own business), Aloysius (no news from him now... busy also I guess), Faye (strictly doing offroad now), Zilla (heard migrated to UK) & Uncle David (present kakis).

Soon after, we were informed that a new bikeshop, Bikelink had just opened in Yishun. Since it is nearby to where we lived, we frequented Bikelink & became regulars & Thomas became our cycling kakis too. From here, we had our regular Saturday Nite ride (all of us rode MTB) which kick-off every Saturday night from Bikelink at 8.30pm. Through these rides, the numbers of kakis grew more & more from all over Singapore... averaging about 30 riders per ride. These rides were under MTB Singapore group. Present kakis who join these rides are George, Guanster, Uncle Leong, Suresh, Lawrence, Samuel, Cheemeng, Nishal, Eapen, Abg Ali, Simon & Noor.

With this group, kakis come & go but we, mostly from Woodlands decided to stick around for more road rides. Since now we do strictly road rides, the roadbike virus spread around like wild fire. One by one bought a roadbike (if I'm not wrong, Suresh was the 1st one who rode a roadbike in this group).

Through the years, more kakis mostly around Woodlands, Sembawang & Yishun join the group for our regular weekly ride & occasional ride to Malaysia... kakis such as Denise, Keith, Sam, Uncle Yang, David Jr, Suhaimi, CK, Abg Mat, Abg Sani, Nasir, Salem, Jeff etc.

With these regular kakis, we decided to have a name for our new group. Thus WOODLANDZ CYCLIQUE was formed in June 2009.

Yup. I agree with abg mann. It's been a good experience riding with the rest of the kakis. With a new member added, hopefully we can expand the group bigger. The more the merrier as they say. And keep the rubber side down!!!!

P.s :- I forgot sumting... I remembered at one time during the vista point days we were unofficially called "TEAM BAD JOJO". If im not wrong, it was abg salem who brought up that idea. And i still have the tee saying "TEAM BAD JOJO" at the back till now...

i honestly feel this group is damn solid , in terms of riding and friendship. RESPECT!

Ya, kudos to the group! Never know cycling is so fun and additive till i met the group...

We come from different racial backgrounds & at all level of age group..... we CLIQUE as one coz we share one thing in common ie. CYCLING.

These made our group WOODLANDZ CYCLIQUE.... UNIQUE!!!

well said. we have to keep this unique culture with us, for as long as it can get!
